Genome Size, Flowering, and Breeding Compatibility in Osmanthus Accessions

نویسندگان

چکیده

Extending the range of Osmanthus species into more cold-hardy climates would open new opportunities for adoption and use these by growers, landscapers, public. Breeding improvement is hindered few available cultivars a lack female or perfect flowers. The objectives this study were to evaluate floral morphology pollination biology in U.S. market. Thirty-three genotypes representing four evaluated McMinnville, TN, USA genome size, morphology, pollen viability, self- cross-compatibility. All diploid with 2C sizes ranging from 2.89 3.21 pg. Perfect flowers observed all O. armatus 82% heterophyllus genotypes. fortunei fragrans had male-only Pollen viability based on staining vitro germination ranged 8% 98% 6% 53%, respectively. was stigmas 94.2% collected 24 hours after cross- self-pollination. There significant association between cross type percentage tubes reaching ovaries; 72 h, reached ovaries 67% intraspecific crosses, 78% interspecific 0% self crosses (χ2 = 26.5, p < 0.001). This provides evidence self-incompatibility system insights challenges hybrid breeding.

B chromosomes and genome size in flowering plants.

B chromosomes are extra chromosomes found in some, but not all, individuals within a species, often maintained by giving themselves an advantage in transmission, i.e. they drive. Here we show that the presence of B chromosomes correlates to and varies strongly and positively with total genome size (excluding the Bs and corrected for ploidy) both at a global level and via a comparison of indepen...

Genome-wide association mapping for flowering and maturity in tropical soybean: implications for breeding strategies

Knowledge of the genetic architecture of flowering and maturity is needed to develop effective breeding strategies in tropical soybean. The aim of this study was to identify haplotypes across multiple environments that contribute to flowering time and maturity, with the purpose of selecting desired alleles, but maintaining a minimal impact on yield-related traits. For this purpose, a genome-wid...

Genome Wide Association Studies, Next Generation Sequencing and Their Application in Animal Breeding and Genetics: A Review

Recently genetic studies have been revolutionized by next generation sequencing (NGS) technology, and it is expected that the use of this technology will largely eliminate defects in the methods of association studies. The NGS technology is becoming the premier tool in genetics. However, at the moment the use of this method is limited especially in the livestock due to high cost and computation...

Major-Effect Alleles at Relatively Few Loci Underlie Distinct Vernalization and Flowering Variation in Arabidopsis Accessions

We have explored the genetic basis of variation in vernalization requirement and response in Arabidopsis accessions, selected on the basis of their phenotypic distinctiveness. Phenotyping of F2 populations in different environments, plus fine mapping, indicated possible causative genes. Our data support the identification of FRI and FLC as candidates for the major-effect QTL underlying variatio...

INFORMATIONAL SIZE AND INCENTIVE COMPATIBILITY By Richard

We examine a general equilibrium model with asymmetrically informed agents. The presence of asymmetric information generally presents a conflict between incentive compatibility and Pareto efficiency. We present a notion of informational size and show that the conflict between incentive compatibility and efficiency can be made arbitrarily small if agents are of sufficiently small informational s...
